RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR NARCOTIC TREATMENT PROGRAM
➢ Present, on request, two items of identification. One of which must have a full-face photograph,
signature, and identifying physical data.
➢ Methadone must be swallowed in front of medication nurse. Take-homes are to be taken from
the clinic in a responsible manner as prescribed by the Medical Director.
➢ Urine samples will be taken at least 12 times a year. You may also be asked to give a urine
specimen whenever staff deems necessary.
➢ Urine testing is random. If you are unable to provide a urine sample when asked, you may wait
in the clinic until you are able to produce a sample, you may request an oral swab test or you
may elect to have the “unable to obtain” counted as a positive test result. Our lab charges extra
for an oral swab test, so unfortunately, we must pass this extra charge on to you. Please check
with the nurse or office manager for the current amount of this extra charge.
➢ If you miss 3 dosing days, you will be asked for a urine sample. If you miss 4 dosing days you will be required to give a urine sample and speak to your counselor. If you miss 5 consecutive
days without contacting the clinic you will be required to provide a urine sample, speak with a counselor and have an appointment with the doctor. If you miss 3o consecutive days you will be discharged from the program, but you may readmit at
any time within ninety days with no new paperwork.
➢ It is your responsibility to pay your weekly fees. Fees are due on Monday. To prevent a non-
payment withdrawal, all fees must be current by Friday. All take homes must be paid for in
advance.
➢ You may not enter the medication office or staff offices unless invited by the staff.
➢ Threatening behavior, either verbal or physical, will be cause for termination from the program.
➢ Hate language of any kind will not be tolerated in the clinic. Hate language consists of
threatening or insulting statements or comments or names/labels that have historically been
insulting to specific groups of people. Comments/insults/names may not be directed to any
racial, ethnic, cultural, or religious groups, nor may such comments/insults/names be based on
an individual’s gender, sexual orientation or disability. If not immediately corrected upon the
receipt of a single warning the use of hate language will be cause from termination from the
clinic, in conjunction with our commitment to be a hate-free zone.
➢ You may not bring weapons of any kind onto the clinic property.
➢ Failure to comply with all medical requirements (TB test, blood draw, chest x-rays, etc.) may result in
suspension from the program until completed.
➢ Alcoholic or other illicit drugs are not allowed in the clinic or on the premises.
➢ Smoking is not allowed in the clinic (including electronic-cigarettes).
➢ Appropriate dress, such as shirt and shoes, should be worn in the clinic due to health factors.
➢ No loitering on or near AHS property. All visitors must check in at the front desk.
➢ Any patient that comes into the clinic apparently intoxicated (alcohol or drugs) will not be dosed
that day and will be asked to leave the premises. Upon return to the clinic, you may be required
to give a urinalysis or preform a breathalyzer test per Doctors’ orders.
➢ Gifts, gratuities, or commodities of any appreciable financial value from patients to staff or vice
versa are not permitted. Such exchanges can compromise the integrity of the patient’s
treatment program and the objectivity and clinical judgment of staff toward that particular
patient.
➢ Clinic medical and counseling staff will work with patients for needed absences away from the
clinic for business or vacation travel. Such assistance may take the form of granting take-home
privileges, seeking program and/or federal exceptions to established rules and/or assisting in
arranging for courtesy dosing. Such assistance may be dependent on the patient’s compliance
with clinic rules and established take-home criteria, including a history of negative urinalyses
results after the initial intake UA.
➢ Patients and their significant others will be permitted to visit AHS / RRHS / SFHS to determine if
they are appropriate for treatment. Other visits by patients and their friends, families, or
significant others will be considered on a case-by-case basis by AHS staff and permitted if
clinically appropriate and relevant to their treatment at this clinic. These other visits must be
limited in order to protect confidentiality of other patients.
➢ All patients must protect the confidentiality of other patients. You may not mention to other
people patients you know who receive services through our clinic or any patient activity within
the clinic that you may observe. Patient confidentiality is critical.
➢ Patients are not allowed to borrow from and lend money to other patients. Patients also may
not borrow or ask for cigarettes, rides, or other goods or favors from fellow patients.
➢ Patients may not discuss their treatment or talk about other patients in the clinic with fellow
patients. We understand that patients may have friendships with fellow patients outside of the
clinic and that they may engage in activities together, but you must refrain from discussion of
your treatment or other patients. Such discussions are frequently not therapeutic and in fact
become breeding grounds for rumors that can be destructive of other patients and of the clinic
as a whole.
